I Am

I read somewhere that a good way to get started with poetry is to write an “I Am” poem. Did I read this? Now I’m thinking that I heard Orion Carloto talk about how she had to write one in high school. Either way, I wrote my own version of an “I Am” poem to christen a new journal a while ago and this is it.

I am
Hours spent staring at nothing
I am
The song you’re embarrassed to like
I am
Sleeping in on a workday
I am
The feeling you get
When you know you’ve forgotten something
But you don’t remember what
I am
Tea that’s gone cold
I am
A lot of things
But I am not the right things
